Crowded House after 30 years
The concert last night at McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdale, Oregon was fantastic, with great music, beautiful setting, good company, and of course great food. Lawrence Arabia, the opening act, was interesting with some overtones of The Kinks and Vanilla Fudge, but definitely 2026 updates. Their CD was bought by my daughter, and I can confidently say they are a great live band. The band played all of their huge hits from the 80's and 90's, including "Fall at your Feet" from the Woodface album and Don't Dream It's over from the Crowded House album. Fruit Bats, Fruit Bats, Fruit Bats. What can you say about Fruit Bats. They were tight as ever, musically talented, and still relevant to today's music scene with the release of their new record, Intriguer. The band's portion of the show started around 7:00 PM under a partly cloudy but bright sky, finishing under the glow of a mostly full moon around 9:30. The band interacted easily with the audience, engaging in banter and even a running race between children under 12 and the band's drummer. The evening for my family was one of the best times we have had together. Neil Finn mentioned something about the "fxxxing curfew" at the end of the night, hinting that they would have played all night if they could. The concert was well managed, and we were home in Vancouver in just 45 minutes.
